2023 Spring Cleanup Day (SM)

The annual St. Meinrad Parish Spring Cleanup Day will be held on the church grounds on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Central Time.

Parishioners are invited to join members of the Facilities and Grounds Commission and Cemetery Commission throughout the day to clean up parish and cemetery grounds. The day will begin with an opening prayer in the south parking area of the church, followed by forming teams to assist throughout the day. All skill levels are welcome. Lunch is provided at 11:30 a.m.

Three ways you can help:

1. Pray for the safety of all volunteers and the success of the day
2. Plan to participate by signing up at the courtesy table located in the narthex
3. Prepare an item for lunch

For your convenience, the west door (carport door) of the parish office will open at 7 a.m. Side salads needing chilled, place directly into the refrigerator. Items may include fruit salads, vegetable salads and desserts. Please no items containing nuts.

St. Meinrad Parish and Cemetery 2023 Spring Cleanup Day

Cemetery

• Remove debris along fence lines
• Inventory and prioritize stone repair in sections A & C
• Discuss a plan for preventive and ongoing maintenance
• Replace light on the crucifix (exterior casing damaged in subzero temperature in December 2023) *

Church

• Tighten bulkheads and pews to the floor
• Dust Beams *
• Dust Shrine Statutes *
• Dust and remove webbing and other debris on sandstone surface areas and visible vents above 6’
• Replace LED lights in the choir loft visible to the organist/accompanist to single cantor/ensemble to begin

Grounds

• Power wash south carport
• Reapply Wet & Forget Outdoor on all sidewalks (church and office) and south stairwell (office)
• Weed control in landscaping
• Spray along the foundation of all buildings for weed control (Spectracide)
• Remove winged burning bushes (Euonymus alatus) – invasive species
• Sweeps debris from curbs
• Trim and shape holly trees (at the east entrance of the church)
• Remove debris and limbs from the west bank of property line
• Restore and seed edging along sections of replaced sidewalks
• Prepare surface for priming and painting: natural gas guard rail and surface grate (drain) *
• Clear and clean gutters on the storage building (annex) and parish office
• Water control and diversion at the south property line and from the west bank, adding buffer strips between 5th Street N and Brewery Street access road and basketball court *
• Power wash sidewalk near generator (mildew creates slick service when humidity is high)
• Clean generator cover

Office

• Clean and disinfect (lower level)
• Clean and disinfect (main floor)
• Wash Windows (interior and exterior)
• Power wash west carport access ramp *
• Replace electric receptacles in main floor hallway, rooms F & G
