Deacon Mike Fish has joined the parish staff as a permanent deacon, serving at both parishes. His first weekend will be January 20-21. He and his wife Joy moved to Saint Meinrad several months ago from San Diego, CA, after he retired from his legal practice. They have two sons, one of whom – Br. Jean Fish, OSB – is a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey. Their other son, Scott, lives in Portland, OR, and works in advertising.
Deacon Mike was ordained a permanent deacon for the Diocese of San Diego in 2010. He served at St. Gabriel Parish in Poway, CA, for 10 years, followed by three years at San Rafael Parish in San Diego.
Most of his 40-year legal career focused on appellate litigation, where he argued over 100 cases before the California Courts of Appeal, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and California Supreme Court, collectively. During the last eight years of his career, Deacon Mike worked for judges at the California Court of Appeal in San Diego, performing legal research and assisting in writing judicial opinions. He also served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of San Diego and Western State University Law School.
We wish Deacon Mike much success in his new role with our parish family!
