The Madonna and St. Joseph with Child statues in the church at St. Meinrad Parish will undergo refinishing beginning the week of February 28, 2022.
The hand-carved sculptures have been part of the parish's history since the dedication of the current parish church on March 27, 1960. In recent years a conversation began to finish these statues from Oberammergau, Germany, drawing attention to the unique features of the carvings, including the gentleness of the facial features.
The artisans from Trinity Church Supply of Cincinnati, Ohio, who have created the additional sanctuary appointments commissioned since 2009, will oversee this commissioning. The artist is excited to begin this project because of the extreme detail of the carvings. Trained in Italy, the artist hand paints - no airbrushing and has a studio in the United States. He will use first-quality oil colors specifically mixed for each part of the statute, adding gildings in Real Gold Leaf 23 ct. The statues will be transported to Cincinnati to begin their journey to his studio. The approximate time for the project's completion is 15 weeks.
A note of thanks to the benefactors who have financially supported this project in memory of their loved ones. For more information or to learn more about how you can help, contact Tina Boehm, Finance and Resource Coordinator, at 812-357-6050. or tinab@myparishfamily.church.
