Join our brothers and sisters throughout the Archdiocese of Indianapolis on Sunday, February 20, 2022, by supporting the annual appeal for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe collection. Please join me in offering your prayerful and vocal support.
When war broke out in 2014 in eastern Ukraine, the economic hardships and ongoing armed conflict resulted in the mass migration of more than one million Ukrainians to live and work in Poland. Most of the immigrant population is well educated and between 25 and 45 years old; a majority are Christians, either Orthodox Christian or Eastern Rite Catholic.
Despite the size of the Ukrainian immigrant population, few Polish websites provided reliable sources of information in the Ukrainian language and Cyrillic alphabet, and none of the available sites were run from a perspective of Christian faith. With assistance from the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe, the Southern Polish Province of the Society of Jesus and the Ukraine Mission established DEON.UA, a web portal offering news from sources such as Reuters but also faith-based news from L’Osservatore Romano and America magazine, among others. In addition to news and faith resources, the site also features forums, blogs, and personal profiles, so users have a chance to build relationships as well as find information.
When you support the collection, you support the Church’s mission to bring Good News to those on the margins.
Thank you for your continued support of this collection. More information about the Church in Central and Eastern Europe can be found at www.usccb.org/committees/church-central-eastern-europe.
