In your charity, please pray for the repose of the soul of James “Jim” Bernard Fischer, age 93, of Bristow, IN, who died at his home on Thursday, February 13, 2025, fortified by the sacraments of the Catholic Church.
James was born on March 16, 1931, to Hugo and Catherine (Schaefer) Fischer. He married the former Cora V. Persohn on May 29, 1954. He was a lifetime member of St. Meinrad Catholic Church in Saint Meinrad, IN, a veteran of the Korean War, and a member of American Legion Post 366 of Saint Meinrad.
He was proudest of his family, and his eyes lit up watching his great-grandchildren play. For his grandchildren, he would not hesitate to feign sleep so his granddaughters could finish painting his toenails, to show off his magical powers to stop the rain when driving down the road, or to put his new knee to the test to try the cartwheels his granddaughter learned in gymnastics.
Surviving are his wife Cora; three children, Rick (Laura) Fischer of Bristow, IN, Scott (Rose) Fischer of Saint Meinrad, IN, and Sheila Fischer of Bristow, IN; four grandchildren, Dana (Ruston) Welborn of Huntingburg, IN, Trevar (Amber) Fischer of Ferdinand, IN, Julie (Zackary) Gogel of Atoka, TN, and Kristen (Derek) Ryan of Bellbrook, OH; eight great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 13 step-great grandchildren; and one brother, Edwin Francis Fischer of Huntingburg, IN.
Arrangements are in the care of Alexander Funeral Home of Evansville, IN, with private services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the St. Meinrad American Legion or a charity of your choice.
