Our Plans for Tonight!
Scripture BackgroundThe Solemnity of Christ the King ends the Church Year and holds up Jesus as the one
in whom all history culminates. In this feast, the Church celebrates Jesus in a role he
refuses in the Gospel—that of a king. The Gospel scene takes place during Jesus’ trial
before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor. Jesus sidesteps Pilate’s question, “Are you a
king?” He resists the title and insists that his kingdom is not of this world. Jesus explains
that he has come into the world to testify to the truth.
For Christians today, Jesus is a model for leadership the world needs. This feast day
calls us to remember that love, peace, forgiveness, and truth rule in Jesus’ kingdom, a
community of believers who share his values and relationship to God.

- It is difficult to hear truth these days. Many people think truth is whatever they want it to be. Jesus says that he is the truth.

As baptized Catholics, we are all invited into Christian leadership. Discuss the characteristics of Christian leadership. Make a list of ways the students can be Christian leaders in their community.
