  • The farmworkers work very long hours and do not know whether they will have work each day. They must pay high rates for housing.

  • Jesus said the widow gave more than all the others because she gave what she had to live on and the others gave what they could spare without hurting.
• 3. Define charity. 
  • Charity is the virtue of love-inspired goodwill, kindness, and generosity toward others.
• 4. How did Saint Justin Martyr describe the collection for the poor in the early Church?
  • After Communion, those who wished to would contribute. The collection was used by the president, or priest, to take care of orphans and widows and other needy people.

Our Plans for Tonight! 

Gospel may frighten us, but it also gives us hope. Catholics believe that someday, God will renew the face of the earth. “At the end of time, the Kingdom of God will come in its fullness. Then the just will reign with Christ forever, glorified in body and soul, and the material universe itself will be transformed” ( Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1060). “The visible universe, then, is itself destined to be transformed, ’so that the world itself … should be at the service of the just,’ sharing their glorification in the risen Jesus Christ” (CCC, 1047).

• Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving is celebrated on specific days in the United States and Canada, many people set aside the months of October or November to express gratitude to God and to others. Then celebrate this prayer service together. Encourage the young people to share it with their families. Give them time to reflect on the image and words of the poem. Invite volunteers to share their thoughts. Then have the students answer the question at the bottom of the page. Remind them that expressing gratitude to God is not limited to a single day.

• November 18: Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne A member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, Rose traveled from her home in France to the Americas as a Christian missionary in 1818. She founded many schools, did charitable work, and ministered to Native Americans. 
• November 21: Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary –Mary’s parents presented their daughter in the Temple to fulfill a promise to God. Mary’s mother, Anne, had prayed for a child and promised she would dedicate her child to God’s service. 
• November 22: Saint Cecilia – Many legends surround this famous Roman martyr, who was born in the second century. She is known for her singing, and she symbolizes the value of music in the liturgy. Act: Pray to the Lord with song

• We can learn about God by spending time in God’s Creation. Take the young people on a nature walk (weather permitting) and ask them to make observations about nature. Invite the students to share and then discuss what they learn about God from nature.
