Louisville, Kentucky
On April 29, 2023, seven parish volunteers traveled to the greater Louisville, KY, area to assist Hand in Hand Ministries with service work. Our talented volunteers built a handicap-accessible ramp for The Yearling Club, which assists different civic organizations in the community. Attending was trip leader Sally Gravatte, Tom Gravatte, Randy Scherzer, Adam Fischer, Jessica Fischer, Grant Doyle and Jeff Gravatte.
Belize, Central America
On June 25 – July 1, eight volunteers representing St. Boniface and St. Meinrad parishes traveled to the country of Belize to build a home for a native, Ms. Marion. Traveling with team leader Pam Davis were Aaron Boehm, Randy Scherzer, Rheyse Fleck, Mike Gudorf with children Wyatt and Maddie, and Marty Lautner.
In addition to leaving the legacy of a new house, the team brought several special handmade gifts from our parishioners with them for the new homeowners. Tom and Sally Gravatte made a key ring and cross for the new housekey, and Joann Schaefer sewed a handmade quilt to give to the family. What great mementos for the family to treasure from these awesome volunteers who blessed the family in many ways.
Appalachia
Five talented men from St. Boniface and St. Meinrad parishes took a four-day immersion trip on July 23-26 to Auxier, nestled in the hills and valleys of Appalachia, Kentucky. The men provided a lot of handy work to two homeowners by laying flooring, hanging drywall and painting. Those attending were team leader Jim Gogel, Gervase Ebert, George Schaefer, Randy Scherzer and Bert Heeke. So many talents were used to bless these families!
Great job to all our volunteers for their time and talents serving others to build handicap accessibilities, a home, home repairs and, most importantly, sharing God’s word through prayer, kindness and hope. We are blessed with many talents and kind hearts in our parish. Plans are being made for next year’s immersion trips.
